We arrived at the Museum at 7:30 with ten investigators, broke into two teams taking baseline photos and EMF readings along the way. Multiple camcorders were set up covering the staircase, exhibit room on the first floor and one unit carried about to different areas. Investigations around the David Dodd Memorial and the First Human Dissection Marker located at the site of the original infirmary were also conducted. BACKGROUND The Tower building itself was originally started in 1840 and was designed to store weapons and ammunition on multiple floors. It is the only surviving building of about thirty buildings that made up the entire post. During the height of Arkansas debate over seceding from the Union, the Governor sent a letter to the commander of the Arsenal requesting its surrender and in February 1861 Union forces stationed there commanded by Captain James Totten peacefully surrendered the arsenal to then Governor Rector. During the Civil War on December 30, 1863 a seventeen year old David O Dodd after his capture by Ten Mile House would be taken to Little Rock Arsenal for interrogation. After his trial on January 8, 1864 being convicted of treason and spying, David Dodd would be taken via wagon riding in his own coffin to St John's College on property adjacent to the Little Rock Arsenal and hung. In 1873, the building would become the Little Rock Barracks. November 1874 at the site of the old infirmary which was located just southeast of the Tower the first human dissection in Arkansas was conducted. A marble obelisk commemorating this would be erected in 1927. In approximately 1879, Captain Arthur MacArthur would be stationed there. His then pregnant wife would also accompany him and in 1880 Douglas MacArthur later General Douglas Arthur would be born. In 1892 all the buildings would be removed except the tower and the area was renamed City Park. Later in 1905 Theodore Roosevelt would deliver a speech to city residents at the park. The name was changed to MacArthur Park in 1942 in honor of General Douglas MacArthur. During 1975, Sarah Elizabeth Gran, a trained medium from New York would conduct a seance there. She would mention seeing a blonde woman in white at the top of the stairs whom she identified as "Hannah Lynn". In 1980, Carol Pate, a Little Rock medium, would mention the same woman but described as clothed in black with black hair in the same location. The area of the sightings coorelated with a shadow seen like a human figure by the former Bookeeper/Office Manager, Mrs. Helena Shulze.
ACTIVITIES REPORTED The following activities were experienced by employees back in the 1980s and at that time they were notated, signed and the signature witnessed by the Curator. Knocking sounds, doors opened on their own after being closed, sliding and schuffling noises in the northeast basement, sounds of people walking with no one present. An apparition seen lying down in the theater at the same time by two staff members. A shadow seen multiple times cast as if by a person at the top of the main stairs and glimpses of that apparation at times. OBSERVATIONS/PERSONAL EXPERIENCES: EMF readings were very high in a number of locations due to a lot of electrical wiring throughout the building. Reflective surfaces throughout the building. In the tower you could hear the sound of running water from a pipe to an a/c unit near the ceiling. NOTES AND VALIDATIONS: Quite a few evps were captured regarding previous activities noted. These included a woman seen on the stairs, a duel in the basement and an apparition in the theater seen laying down. During the use of the SpiritCom a realtime direct answer to a question was heard when a question regarding the coded message was posed to David Dodd. This answer was also captured by multiple recorders. EVPs seem to corroborate some of the activity noted. |
